Back of CD Case Designs

These are the intial designs of the back of the cd case.

The first one is more simple, there are no pictures but I have looked at the back of cd cases and found that some use no pictures only a more decorated background,

The Secone one has the use of pictures and after looking at both of them I have found that it looks better without the pictures, I will see what my peers thing, perhaps implemeting a picture into the top one.

Font Change

After attempting to do the back of the cd cover I have found that some of the song titles can't be understood.
Eg.

02. "Bang Bang Bang" isn't readable and looks more like bans bans bans, therefore this isn't suitble as it could be confused for other names.

Front of CD designs.

I have created a few CD designs, these are the front covers, I will later post the back covers, disks and posters.

1. This is the first design, I have made this one very natural and simple, the nature around the picture in this one suggests the natural beaty. The name is at the top and I have sharpened it so that it stands out more. The font at the bottom is more subtle but can still be easily seen against the berry coloured dress. The medium close up is the perfect shot for a cd case, the only problem is if I want the actress to be looking at you rather than looking away although it does give a look of wonderment

2. This one is a close-up, this is continous to the video because it has scenes where she is wearing the venitian mask. In this picture she is looking at you therefore it may draw you in more than the first one. Again the main font is sharp, bright and big to make it stand out so that it is one of the first things you look at. The second font is more subtle but still easily seen.






These are my initial ideas, I will get feedback on these and find out what is liked and what needs improving, I will find out out which shot is best and if another one is needed.

Video Diary 1-Filming Day

My lead Actress and why I chose her.

This is my lead actress in the video, because she will be able to do all the dancing in the video because she used to do ballet. She also looks the most like Selena Gomez and she’s happy to help me with my project.

Storyboard making.

I am currently designing the storyboard for the video which maps out what my lead singer will  be doing in each scene of the music video.

Costumes

The lead singer will have different costumes throughout the video.
In the first scene she shall be wearing a simple dress, the whole thing will be very understated but glamorous.
As we continue she will change into a red dress where she shall be in a field.
In the next verse she'll be in an apron baking.
Finally when she's in her bedroom she will be comfy looking.
The most important thing is that she is wearing a bright fun lipstick when there's an extreme close-up of her lips.

Actresses.

I will have a main actress that will be doing all the live action and the narative parts of the story but then I will also have two backing singers and dancers that will be in the live action moments and in other scenes where needed, this is relative to the target audience because in most pop video's this is what happens.

This is a rough idea of when I am producing things, this will help to keep me on track so that I can meet all the deadlines.

Poster plan/Design

I once again used a picture of Selena Gomez after searching on the internet of how I want my actress to pose on my poster. I will use a medium shot and the continuous fonts will again be used for the poster along with all other media products, I will make sure it looks like she's following you with her eyes because it pulls you in  and makes it more concise.

Location and Props.

This video will be shot in a series of locations which include:
-A field
-A kitchen
-A bedroom
-And a white backdrop.
I will later show a story board in which these shall be used,
props will include:
-Icing & Cookies
- A diary.

Final Colour Scheme

This is the final colour scheme as it takes all the advice from the other ones and I've combined them to make the perfect colour scheme for the video and other products.

Analysing the colour results

After looking at the results and asking more people what they're favourites are after dismissing the blues and the  neautrals.

Therefore I have decided to use the top colour of the berries, the coral colour from the summer brights and a light lilac y pink colour. I shall post the final colour scheme later today before moving onto font decisions.

Colour Scheme results.

Heather- "The berry is the perfect collection of girlyness with all the pinks, but I think the bottom right needs to be lighter because the top is so dark.

Alex-" I like the pink but I think there should be more colours as well not just pink but a lilac, so I say you mix the berry's and the purples".

Lucy-"I love them all apart from the neutrals (because they're too boring) and the blues(because they're too boyish).

Cathryn-" I think it's too pink and cliché I think it should be pop related and there should be pink in there just not is much. And the neutrals are too boring therefore my final decision for the colours is the summer brights because it's fun and playful which is what the pop genre is about.

Hannah-"I love the berry the most, the colours are perfect".

Final fonts

These are the final fonts that I am using. I asked a group of 12 peers what they thought of the fonts and on a rating from 1 to 5 I got:

Therefore I decided that most liked it and that it was my favourite therefore I am going to use it.

Font ideas 2

After looking at the fonts I've already chosen I decided to see if there were any more exciting and pretty ones that I could use.

These are different fonts that I have found that area appropriate to the media products that I will be producing. I have decided that I will use 2 of them therefore I shall be putting them together to find what go together and then once I've decided on one I will ask peers what they think of it.

After asking 30 peers I now have the results for my font ideas.

I will take these results into consideration and decide whether the one that has the highest votes will be used for my products.

Font Ideas

I have picked several fonts that I think could be suitable for my poster and cd cover, I will later ask my peers which one they believe is the most appropriate for my products, these were found on DaFont.com.


1. The first font Beauregard is very girly with the swirls and will stand out against any background and even though the actual font is basic the use of swirls around the letters makes it more interesting.

2. The Second font CamelotDeNada is simple but the fact that some of it is more faded than other bits makes it more interesting and if the picture is more extreme it may be neccesary to use a simple font so that it doesn't look over the top.

3. The third font OttoLand is very bold and slants to the side like Italic, it's not the most exciting but again could be used to tone down the poster and CD case.

4. The fourth font Rechtman is very elegant and pretty and can be seen as very girly and appealing to the target audience, this would look good against a black and white picture or something very demure.

5.The fifth font RhumaScript and is also elegant but there's something intriguing about it but also very girly and pretty so that can be related to the theme of the song and artist and also of the targeted audience.

6. The sixth StripesCaps is striped and different to all the others, this however isn't as easy to read therefore this may depend on the colours used.

7.Finally the seventh Soul_Handwriting is more edgy and looks like it could have been painted by a brush this can be related to the lyrics so it may be a good choice.

I will found out what my peers think of these font and evaluate which one is the best to use.

Letter to Hollywood Records

When researching Hollywood records I found that they have no public address so in order to contact them I would have to send a letter to them in order to gain permission for the song I wish to use for my A2 media project.

Getting Permission to use the song.

In order to be able to use this song I have to have permission from the record label "Hollywood Records" that Selena Gomez belongs to therefore I will contact them asking for permission to use the song. Hopefully getting a reply.

The artist is expressing that she loves him and she wants the love to last, and that as long as she wants it they can have it.

From this you can tell that's she's telling him all the things she loves about him and how it makes her feel, the lyrics suggest that she was lost without him.

The lyrics show that she declaring that she will only love him and she's only going to love him which shows with the theme of a love song, the complete declaration of love is present.

This poster relates to the CD cover and the whole theme of the album with the circus clothes and the backdrop of the circus tent. Her expression isn't happy which shows that there's vunarability in the video and she isn't always happy and she is in the eye of everyone as she sings in the song Circus "All eyes on me in the centre of the ring, just like a circus which shows that the does have the pressure on her. The colours tie in with the circus theme because a typical colour fo the circus is red and yellow, therefore they've played on that to make it more authentic.

CD Cover Analysis

In this front cover, the essence of Lady Gaga's quirkyness is shown the black and white image means it pops more against the back ground. This image relates to the main song of the album in where she is seen looking like this. It's showing the beauty in plain sight, this is who she is and this what you're going to see.

Rihanna is used in a close up, which is common when looking at Cd covers, the picture relates to the setting of the video and the warm tone. This is one of the summer hits therefore it uses that as it's base for the picture so it's all relative, the colours used are often used with the pop genre, lots of reds and pinks, bright colour.

Selena Gomez-Love you like a love song, (Ideas,conventions,setting etc)

Love you like a love song consists
of many different settings, the first
is set in a Japanese style karaoke
bar, in which the lyrics start to
appear on the screen to make it
more believeable and effective.
As the song continues the video
transitions to the karaoke screen
in which Selena is on in a different scene, the whole video has a
fantasy element which links to the message of the song that the
love is out of this worlds. Therefore there is the take on the mid-
night car rides watching the stars and being all loved up.This
continues through all the different settings playing on the
different idealistic conventions of love.
From this video I will take a few ideas adding my own twist on
the song and video. One Idea that I plan on taking forward is the use of lyrics on screen during the chorus to keep within the theme however I will use 3 girls compared to just 1 and they will all have different settings.

Target Audience

The target audience for my music video is girls in their teens to late twenties, therefore everything I do shall be linked with the target audience and whether or not it's suitable. The reason why I have chosen this age group is because I can relate to it and I know the things teenage girls like because I am one so with my ideas and the views of others within the target audience I will be able to create a music video that is perfect for my target audience

Decision on what song to choose.

Using the social networking site facebook I used the question tool to ask the question:

"What song should I use for my A2 Media Studies Project?" because I'd narrowed it down to four selections and was having a difficult time choosing so I decided to take the opinions of others into consideration.

The Results were:

Demi Lovato-Skyscraper: 1

Nicki Minaj-Super Bass: 3

Lady Gaga- Born this way: 7

Selena Gomez- Love you like a love song: 9

It seemed that my two favourites were the favourites of my friends to and after going through the advantages and disadvantages which will be shown in a later post I found that Selena Gomez-Love you like a love song was the best choice.

Analysis of Pop Video's continued

How are the band/artist represented? Is this similar across the videos?

The artist is represented in a fun "Barbie" like way, she's stands out because of the bright colours. She seems care free and fun loving in this video, she's not afraid to stand out of crowd. This is a common theme throughout all of Nicki's video's, she always wants to appear girly and fun and there is always a lot of pink in her video's to add to her Barbie style that's consistent throughout the videos.
What relationship exists between the images and the lyrics in the chosen videos?

The dancing in the video represents the lyrics because the line "boy you got my heart beat running away, beating like a drum" and at this point she is moving her hands against her heart to the drum. Props are used for some of the lyrics.

Is it possible to see any common features in music videos?
Dancing is used which I've found appears in all the music videos that I have analysed, there is all live action so you can see her singing some of the lyrics in time with the song. There are many different settings in this video which is sometimes used and sometimes not depending on the narrative story of the song..

1. Lady Gaga- Born This Way.

 

Lady Gaga's cd cover is still the representation of her quirky style from the way she looks to the font used it is the gaga way. The black and white picture allows her to stand out against the flat black background.

2. Selena Gomez: A Year Without Rain

The delicate colours represent the beauty of Selena and of the album, the picture of Selena is a medium closeup and is the main attraction so that you know straight away that it's her official album.  This album cover is more grown up that the rest showing that she herself is not the same and she's progressing more.

3. Cheryl Cole: Messy Little Raindrops.

Cheryl's album cover is using the bright pop colours that are usually associated with the pop genre so she's staying with the conventions, the font used is also used on her other albums, Cheryl's expression shows not a happy feeling but that things are messy like the album title says.

Video Inspiration

Selena Gomez- Who Says.

Selena's music video Incorperates the lyrics into the setting of the video, the message of the song is printed on the walls and in the sky so she is seen as a role model to her fans. This is something that I would consider doing in my music video as a backdrop to the main stars,

A2 Pop Genre Research.

I have decided to research the pop in relation to my favourite genre, in order to fully understand the conventions of a pop video, I shall be researching Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole because they are what comes to mind when thinking of the pop genre.
Firstly, I am going to analyse    
Katy Perry's Last Friday Night

This music video represents everything colourful about the pop genre, the artist here is seen in a bright light. Katy's persona in this is seen as the geeky girl that ends up turning the heads with a make-over from her friend Rebbecca. This video is very light and upbeat and is perfectly aimed at it's teenage target audience. This video has placed relate able people in it like Darren Criss who the targeted audience will know from the TV show Glee. This video puts together both Narrative and Live action creating a good mix to keep the audience interested.

Lady Gaga-Judas
Lady Gaga focuses on the narrative content, along with live action as usual a lot of dancing is used into her videos which is always intricate. Her videos as usual are ex centric, the usual persona of Gaga is represented in this video because of the weird but wonderful clothing that she wears and use of props.

Cheryl Cole- Fight for this love.
Cheryl's music video includes a lot of dancing, the bright colours are relate able to the pop genre. The tempo of the song is upbeat and feisty therefore this is shown in the video with the aggressiveness of the dances but when it slows down so does the action on the video.
                                                  

 Britney Spears- I wanna go.

This video represents the papparatzi as robots that even when she thinks she's got rid of them they always come back and that she cannot trust anyone as part of the story of the video however there is also a mix of live action aswell, the video makes Britney look like she's adored by men and she's the centre of the attention which is natuaral because she's the artist of the song. It makes her look like she can do no wrong as the police officer dismisses the crime. At the beginning the short cuts are in time with the quick beat at the beginning.

Selena Gomez- Who Says.This video focuses a lot on live action but the use of props in this video gives a message therefore it's showing Selena in a good light. This video has a calm to it like the overall feel of the song.

After analysing conventional pop videos I have found that  the artist is always central when dancing is taken place and the colours used are stereotypical to the genre. Generally there is a narrative to the music video.  The dancing is rhythmic to the music along with live action to give a good mix to the video.
